In the Baraga/L’anse area is Mount Arvon which is the highest point in the state of Michigan. We visit the tourist office where we are given the map and told we can either drive all the way up or we can park two miles from the top and take a trail the rest of the way up.
What does “easy” mean exactly?
I asked her if the trail is accessible without much difficulty and she assures us that it is. We take the trail. We need walking sticks because it is crooked most of the way. We have to hold on to trees and roots as we pull ourselves forward. We ford small logs as we cross streams more than once. Shoes are covered in mud from slipping on the wet areas of the ground. Get the picture? Yep, she was considerably younger than us and has a different perspective of what is “easy.” But we make it to the top to enjoy a beautiful view of the valley below us.

A treat from the Hilltop because we made it to the hilltop.
Later in the day we visit Canyon Falls. This was an easy trail and a gorgeous walk with rapids running most of the way to the falls. On the way back to the RV we stop at a produce stand and overhear the locals talking about a restaurant just a mile up the road. They encourage us to stop for a cinnamon roll. The best treat in 3 counties!
I love cinnamon rolls so it does not take much to convince me that we must go. The picture we took next to an apple will show the size of this baked masterpiece. Completely baked all the way through and the best roll I have ever tasted. No, we did not eat it all at one time. Cut and put in the freezer to enjoy as we go.
The Hilltop Restaurant knows how to serve a cinnamon roll!
