We are in Marquette. Today is my birthday. Ed asks what I would like to do. I say, “See the Downton Abbey” movie. He’s not excited but it is MY birthday.
First we load bicycles and head a few miles to Presque Isle park in the heart of Marquette. This was beautiful beyond words to describe. We start by going down to the beach to continue Ed’s agate search. We meet a local shop owner there that spends time showing us how to look for agates. She is looking for them because she makes her own jewelry. Jackpot!
We finally have about 10 beautiful stones from the Lake Superior shoreline. As we continue to explore the park, we come to a rocky area where young college students are jumping off cliffs into the icy water.

Further down is a beach with black rocks. Further still are rock formations with all colors of the rainbow running through them. When exiting the park we are in full view of the freighter “Ashtabula” being loaded with iron ore.

We have completely enjoyed this small but nature rich park. From my perspective…it was prettier than Pictured Rock shoreline. At the end of the afternoon we head to Iron Bay Restaurant to celebrate Rhonda’s and my birthday. We enjoy an appetizer of white fish tater tots… a specialty of the chef. They were better than you might think. Then on to the movies.

It has been a very special birthday indeed. Oh, and top if off with a gift from Rhonda and Dan of my favorite…German Chocolate Cake. Yummm!
